Remains found in a Georgia dumpster last week have been identified as those of the boy who went missing earlier this month, and the boy’s father now faces murder charges.
The remains of two-year-old J’Asiah Deon Mitchell were formally identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner on Thursday, a week after they were found at the East Point transfer station, FOX 5 reported.
Investigators obtained warrants to charge the boy’s father, 23-year-old Artavious North, who had previously reported the boy had been abducted.
He faces charges of murder, felony manslaughter, first degree cruelty to children and concealment of death, the East Point Police Department told The Post on Friday.
However, as of Friday afternoon he had not been formally charged or appeared in court, the statement said.
Other suspects could also face charges, according to 11Alive.

“Wicked,” J’Asiah’s distraught mother, Asia Mitchell, wrote on Facebook Thursday night alongside a news update posted on North’s charges.
“You took my world away from me. Now God will turn yours inside out,” he promised in another heartbreaking post that featured a video of her and J’Asiah laughing together.
Mitchell and North were not in a relationship at the time of J’Asiah’s alleged murder, Channel 2 Action News previously reported.

J’Asiah was visiting with North when she was first reported missing on August 16.
At the time, North claimed her son was abducted when armed kidnappers cut him off at a red light just before midnight.
However, just a day later, authorities announced that they believed North had fabricated the story.

The father was then arrested and charged with making false statements, although he was already in custody on separate charges at the time, Channel 2 Action News reported.
When the boy’s remains were discovered in the dumpster near North’s home last week, police had named the young father as a person of interest.
“I will tell you that several of [North’s] Family members who are very forthcoming have tried to talk to him and are pleading with him, ‘Tell the truth,’” East Point Police Chief Shawn Buchanan told Channel 2 at the time.

As of Friday afternoon, it was not known if the child’s cause of death had been determined.
