A lady received an unexpected “verbal warning” at work for discussing her period pain with a coworker, even though she didn’t initiate the topic.

The woman’s story inspired an outpouring of support and empathy on social media after she shared it on Reddit. The post, which was published the day before, received almost 8,000 upvotes. Some even remembered and shared similar work experiences.

“I just received a verbal warning for talking about my period at work,” the woman expressed her displeasure. Since I’m a supervisor, obviously the requirements are ‘different’ because I made someone feel ‘uncomfortable’. I didn’t even bring it up because one of my supervisees was complaining of menstrual cramps. I informed him that I did too. “That was the end.”

“I was spoken to by the same lady from human resources who gave a lecture last year about gender inequality in the workplace,” she continued. His words of wisdom from her? “Take less time getting ready in the morning so men will take you seriously.”

The Internet was not happy about this.

Reddit users rushed to the comments area shortly after the post was shared to express their thoughts. “How is that inappropriate?” one user asked. “As a manager, some employees called in sick due to menstrual cramps. One of them had to go to the hospital because of this. It is an inevitable issue related to the well-being of employees, and their coworkers need to mature.”

Another added: “I do autopsies for a living. Part of my job is removing the uterus and ovaries. Every day, technicians are up to their elbows in someone. A technician would walk out of the room if we started talking about it. I just didn’t understand “It’s childish at that time.”
