F1 driver Carlos Sainz chases thieves who stole his $540,000 watch

Ferrari Formula One driver Carlos Sainz Jr. had his luxury watch stolen hours after placing third in the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday, but the speedster was able to chase down the criminals and recover it.

Sainz, 29, of Spain, was attacked near the Armani Hotel in Milan for his $540,000 Richard Mille watch while still wearing a team uniform, according to ESPN.

The driver, his coach and witnesses chased after the suspects and were able to recover the watch, according to the report, citing Italian media.

Sainz was then filmed catching his breath while police handcuffed a suspect.

The Spaniard then addressed X to discuss the incident.

“As many of you already know, yesterday we experienced an unfortunate incident in Milan. The most important thing is that we are all fine and this will only remain as an unpleasant anecdote,” Sainz wrote.

The theft came a year after four suspects robbed teammate Formula One driver Charles Leclerc of his Richard Mille watch in Italy, who were later arrested.

Driver Lando Norris also had an exclusive Richard Mille piece stolen in 2020 while watching a football match, and a suspect was later found not guilty, according to Planet F1.
