Facebook on Monday announced a number of new audio-based products and features. Products and features will be released in the coming months. The development came on the heels of the popular Clubhouse app, which has seen very steep growth so far this year.
People can listen to and interact with speakers virtually through these Clubhouse-like products, Reuters reports.
In a corporate blog post, the Facebook team led by Mark Zuckerberg gave details of four different voice-related services. The products that surprised the most were the podcast platform and the creation of spaces for live audio transmission.
Clubhouse is a mix of a virtual conference and an interactive podcast. Users through the Clubhouse can create rooms to discuss in principle on any topic.
The social network currently limits the number of users through two mechanisms. It is only available for Apple devices and also uses an “invite principle”. That means that only those who are invited by an existing user can have a voice. Both factors make it used mainly by celebrities, politicians and prominent figures in the media.

In addition, Facebook began publicly testing a new app called Hotline in early April. Through this, creators can speak and answer live questions from an audience.
This question and answer product combines audio elements with text and video. Also, this product comes as social media platforms experiment with a number of new live audio features.
Twitter to launch audio service in April
In early March, Twitter also announced the launch of Spaces, its audio service where anyone can create their own public conversations, to compete with Clubhouse.
