A deceptive toll plaza, cunningly built on private land in Morbi district, managed to fool commuters, police and government officials for a staggering year and a half, according to an NDTV report.

The toll plaza, which strategically surrounded the national highway, charged unsuspecting travelers 50% of the standard toll rate, leaving authorities in the dark for over a year. The scam was discovered when officials received information about vehicles deviating from the legitimate Varghasia toll route. Local district collector GT Pandya recounted, “We received information that some vehicles were being diverted… Police and other officials reached the spot to investigate and lodged a detailed complaint.”

The manager of the authorized toll plaza on the expressway revealed the extent of the fraud, revealing that private owners had been dishonestly siphoning off thousands of rupees from unsuspecting travelers daily for a year and a half.

Responding to the heinous scam, the police took swift action and filed a complaint against the mastermind, factory owner Amarshi Patel and four others: Vanraj Singh Jhala, Harvijay Singh Jhala, Dharmendra Singh Jhala and Yuvraj Singh Jhala .
This incident closely follows a similar scam in which a man was arrested for running a fake government office in the state for almost three years, managing to siphon off more than Rs 4 million in government funds.
