Members of two families punched, kicked and body-slammed each other outside a Mississippi courthouse as they fought over the mysterious disappearance of a woman over the summer.
The families of Derrick Coleman and his wife, Latasha Crump Coleman, were at the Hinds County Courthouse in Jackson, Mississippi, Thursday morning for a hearing for Derrick Coleman, who is believed to know where the missing Crump Coleman is.
Crump Coleman, 46, a correctional officer, was reported missing by her family on July 19, 2023, after she was last seen around 7:30 p.m. local time in Jackson.
Derrick Coleman was appealing a 2022 conviction in which he was found to have violated a no-contact protective order with his wife, according to WLBT.
When the court adjourned, members of the two families gathered in the lobby, where they exchanged words before people began shoving and eventually punching each other.
Hinds County sheriff’s deputies and court officials broke up the fight, but when the two groups went outside, a woman could be seen kicking a man, sparking another melee, video outside the courthouse showed.

The unidentified woman’s instigation led to another round of punches and a law enforcement officer knocked a man down the stairs.
The entire fight was caught on camera, as local news crews covered the hearing inside the courthouse, along with an unrelated press conference outside.
After the fights, a minor was left with a bloody nose and several adults were arrested.
“Deputies arrested five adults and all are charged with disorderly conduct and are being held at the Raymond Detention Center,” Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones said.

During the hearing, Judge Johnnie McDaniels ruled that Coleman violated his bail conditions, while dismissing the appeal and returning the case to municipal court.
Latasha Crump Coleman’s family members may have started the fight, as they may not have understood McDaniels’ ruling, believing it meant Derrick Coleman would be released from jail, court officials told WAPT.
Coleman has been behind bars since October.

Crump Coleman’s family suspected that one factor may have been a factor. They also believe her case was “swept under the rug” and out of the national spotlight because her disappearance occurred several days after the fake disappearance of Carlee Russell in Alabama.
Russell gained national attention after he “disappeared” on July 13 after work, with friends and family claiming he stopped his car to help a child wandering on the side of a road.
She reappeared on July 15 at her family home, but when detectives began asking Russell questions, her story quickly fell apart and she admitted making it all up.

She was convicted of filing a false police report in October and faces up to a year in prison.
While no arrests have been made in Crump Coleman’s disappearance, no suspects have been ruled out and Coleman’s name is “high on the radar,” Jackson Police Chief Joe Wade told the outlet.
