At Chengdu, the People’s Republic of China, athletes from different countries will compete in 18 different sports to win a total of 269 medals. Please note that India will only compete in 11 sports at FISU World University Games 2023, including athletics, badminton, judo, fencing, shooting, table tennis, swimming, taekwondo, volleyball, and tennis. However, a wushu team was also about to compete in the game but later it withdrew its name. The ongoing FISU World University Games 2023 is the 31st edition of the biennial multi-sport event. The previous edition of the World University Games was played in 2019 held in Naples. In 2019, India could only win a total of four medals including one gold, one silver, and two bronze.

In 2023, India has already won a total of 17 medals in the FISU World University Games. Shooters Elavenil Valarivan and Manu Bhaker won gold medals in the women’s 10 m air rifle and air pistol events respectively, to open India’s account on the medals table. On the opening day of the event, Manu Bhaker topped the podium in the women’s 10m air pistol team along with Abhidnya Ashok Patil and Yashaswini Deswal. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar (Shooting), Aman Saini and Pragati (Archery), Avneet Kaur (Archery), Sangampreet Singh Bisla (Archery), Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar (Shooting), Arjun Babuta, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Divyansh Singh Panwar (Shooting) won Gold Medals at World University Games.
