A Florida man was seen making “earth angels” at a construction site while hiding from police after crashing his car last week, according to footage captured by authorities.
Eliezer Armando Reyes Ríos, 34, was beaten while leaving the scene of an accident; driving with a canceled, suspended or revoked license; and trespassing at a construction site, among other charges related to the bizarre incident, officials said Wednesday.
Reyes Ríos was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Christmas Eve and managed to escape the “probing eyes” of a deputy while they were gathering information at the scene, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
The suspect ignored the deputy’s instructions and jumped over a fence into a construction zone, where he was seen by the sheriff’s Aviation Unit lounging in a pile of dirt, video captured by the helicopter shows.
Reyes Ríos was feeling the “Christmas spirit” and made “earth angels” while hiding in a sewer, according to the sheriff.

“Just so everyone knows, he’s lying casually with his arms behind his head,” the pilot told agents on the ground.
After rolling on the ground, Reyes Ríos appeared to take a phone call before running off again and scaling a different part of the fence to escape.
While still on the phone, he encountered three officers and a K-9, who told him to “get on the ground.”

“He ran out and hid in the dark. “She lay in a hole in the ground, sometimes maybe feeling the Christmas spirit, doing ‘Dirt Angels’ and making calls on her phone,” she cheekily wrote the sheriff’s office. “Then she got up! She jumped onto the fence, up and up, only to find, not eight little reindeer, but three deputies and an obedient K-9.”
The unit thanked its aviation team for keeping an eye on him, writing, “Thank you to our Aviation Unit, who did not see a big, jolly man dressed in red on Christmas Eve, but instead found him playing in the dirt.”
