‘Florida Man Games’ will pit beer lovers and alligator fighters against each other in first showdown

A unique competition coming to the Sunshine State next year will pit beer lovers and alligator wrestlers against each other in what’s billed as “the craziest athletic showdown on Earth.”

“The Florida Man Games™ is where weird meets brawn and sanity is optional! This is not just a competition; It’s a one-of-a-kind Florida show!” organizers said on the games website.

The first Florida Man Games will feature nine bizarre competitions inspired by the headlines of the same name involving guns, drugs, alcohol and reptiles, or some combination of the five.

Unique contests include an “Evade Arrest Obstacle Course” where players jump over fences, run through backyards, and escape from real police officers, and a “Tier 5 Cash Course” where participants try to get the most of money possible in a cabin where the wind blows.

Also included on the itinerary is a “best” mullet contest, as well as the self-explanatory beer belly fight.

The evening will end with police officers and firefighters battling it out in a “Fight 911 Night, Badge Fight.”

Players will have the opportunity to jump fences, traverse backyards, and get away from real police officers in the “arrest evasion obstacle course.”

The fun isn’t limited to the participants, however: attendees will have the opportunity to take selfies with alligators, participate in a barbecue contest, and experience other “cultural demonstrations.”

The Florida Man Games were the brainchild of Pete Melfi, owner of The 904 Now, a media outlet that covers St. Johns County.

Melfi originally envisioned a “0.5K Beer Run” before thinking of a way to play off the Florida Man headlines that have become a social media phenomenon.
