Florida man posed as police officer while wearing Buccaneers jersey and flashing red and blue lights: authorities

A Tampa, Florida, man was arrested Sunday after allegedly attempting to stop vehicles with his pickup truck equipped with red and blue flashing lights while wearing a Tampa Bay Buccaneers jersey, according to authorities.

The driver, identified as Earl Mitchell Cesario, 62, has been charged with false impersonation of officials in Sumter County.

On Sunday morning, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper learned of a red GMC pickup truck that was trying to stop other vehicles while flashing red and blue lights, FOX 13 in Tampa reported.

At approximately 11 a.m., the trooper spotted and stopped a red pickup truck, operated by Cesario, on the northbound side of I-75 near Bushnell.

Police spoke with Cesario, who allegedly admitted to being in possession of red and blue lights that were on his dashboard before he was detained.

But the lights, he told the soldiers, never activated.

During the investigation, troopers spoke with a male witness who said he was heading north on I-75 when a red GMC Sierra approached from behind and began flashing red and blue lights.

The witness told officers he believed the red truck may have been an undercover police vehicle, and described how the truck driver told him to stop before speeding off.

When the police officer conducted a search of Cesario’s truck, red and blue lights were found.

When plugged into two vehicle outlets, the lights came on.

The officer noted that both electrical outlets, which are commonly used for cigarette lighters, already had their covers removed before testing was performed on the lights.
