Florida man shoots and kills ex in broad daylight attack in front of his grandmother

A Florida man was arrested after allegedly pistol-whipping his ex-girlfriend and shooting her in front of her grandmother in broad daylight, police said.

Anthony Quinn Peyton, 25, was booked Monday for the murder of London Price, 26, in a brutal attack that occurred after he moved back with her to an apartment in Miami-Dade County, reports WPLG.

Police said the woman was pistol-whipped several times before being fatally shot on Oct. 23. Footage of what happened showed Peyton fleeing armed with a gun.

Nedra Allen, Price’s aunt, described the alleged killer as an “animal.” She had pushed for police to locate Peyton, noting that the former couple had “problems” when they were dating.

Allen described his niece as a kind person who was always looking out for others, suggesting that she was trying to help Peyton when she allowed him to move in with her despite their breakup.

“She will give you the shirt that she took off and I think that’s what put her in this situation to hurt her,” the grieving aunt said.

Allen added that Price was a trans woman, and the Human Rights Campaign’s Transgender Justice Initiative issued a statement regarding her murder.

“London had many friends and family who loved her but are now filled with grief following her tragic murder,” said Tori Cooper, the organization’s director of community engagement.

“We must stop the epidemic of violence targeting transgender and non-binary people and the national gun violence crisis. “This crisis is especially treacherous for Black and brown transgender women.”

Since it began tracking violent deaths of trans people in 2013, the Human Rights Campaign has found that nearly 70 percent of victims are shot to death. Most of them were murdered by their current or former partners, and about 76 percent of them were black trans women.

Peyton was charged with second-degree murder and is being held in the Broward County Main Jail.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear as Broward and Miami-Dade County police continue to investigate the case.
