Terrorist hideout in Anantnag of Jammu and Kashmir
According to officials, security forces have come close to the terrorists’ stronghold in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, where they had used bombs and shells to drive them out. Since Tuesday night, an anti-terror operation is underway in the dense forests of Gadol neighborhood of Kokernag in Anantnag. Six days have passed since the initial clash, during which thousands of soldiers, including para commandos, engaged terrorists in an endless firefight. To neutralize the terrorists, three agents, two from the Army and one from the police, were killed in the line of duty.
The three highly armed suspected terrorists are reportedly taking shelter in a strategically advantageous area of the steep and deep forest. They are believed to be connected with Lashkar-e-Taiba as Uzair Khan, one of them, joined Lashkar last year and is familiar with the neighbourhood. Since Saturday it has rained sporadically at the venue, which has made operations very difficult. Army forces cannot enter the region until it has been completely disinfected, according to army sources, although there is no militant shooting there. According to experts, this is the reason why the army is advancing so slowly. Military dogs and explosive detection tools are also being used to clear the area. Security personnel believe that the bodies of the terrorists may be in the hideout. It would be incredibly difficult for them to flee even if they weren’t already dead because the army has blocked off the entire area.
