Tonda Dickerson, a waitress at Waffle House in Florida, found herself at the center of success and misfortune years ago.
Little did he know that his $10 million (around Rs 83 crore) lottery win would not only change his life but also become a warning for all ages, thanks to the infinite wisdom of the Internet.

It all started in 1999, when a kind customer named Edward Seward gave Tonda a lottery ticket he had bought in Florida. Tonda was the unlucky $10 million winner when the numbers finally aligned. Is it time to bring out the confetti? Mistaken.
What went wrong?
Tonda’s legal counsel could have rescued her from the rollercoaster of legal fights that awaited her. When Dickerson won the lottery, she chose a 30-year repayment plan instead of a lump sum, but immediately found herself at war with colleagues who claimed they had a pre-existing agreement to split the winnings.
Ultimately, Alabama law ruled in favor of Tonda, declaring the gambling contracts unenforceable.

The drama, however, did not end there. Tonda’s generosity toward her family, combined with her innovative tax maneuvers, attracted the attention of the IRS. A bill for $771,570 for back federal taxes arrived like an unwanted guest at a party.
