When was the plane ready?
According to the New York Post, NASA and Lockheed Martin unveiled the X-59 on January 12, and the plane was nicknamed the “son of Concorde.”
Why is this plane special?
The plane is one of a kind and was created as part of NASA’s effort to build “quiet” supersonic aircraft. With a huge nose that takes up a third of the plane’s length and blocks the pilot’s vision, those in command rely on a screen to see what is in front of them.
All of this has been done to speed up the supersonic plane and test how to avoid the noisy part of breaking the sound barrier.
It is part of an effort to circumvent a 1973 US restriction on civilian supersonic aircraft operating on its territory, and the large nose is expected to help significantly.
What happens if “silent” supersonic travel is mastered?
If “silent” supersonic travel can be mastered, technological advances can open up a variety of new perspectives, but at this time there are several conditions.

The X-59 is scheduled to make its first flight later this year, after which it will fly over many American cities to gauge public opinion about the sound it produces when flying over them.
