Find a treasure in a dump. One man potentially hit the gold mine when he discovered thousands of abandoned vintage cars in one of Japan’s abandoned prefectures, Fukushima. Although it all sounds like a dream, sort of like finding abandoned vintage cars that are probably worth a good price, it really is just that: a dream.

A man explores the Fukushima disaster area 12 years after the nuclear meltdown
Urban explorer Bob Thissen decided to visit the site of one of the world’s best-known nuclear disaster zones. For those who don’t know, Fukushima was declared the most serious nuclear accident since Chernobyl in 1986. The disaster took place in 2011 when the Tōhoku earthquake and 14-meter-tall tsunami disabled power supply and cooling for three reactors. Fukushima Daichi. All three cores melted in the first three days.
The Fukushima disaster became the only other disaster besides Chernobyl to be classified as Level 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale. In the days after the disaster, more than 150,000 residents within a 20 km radius of the plant were forced to abandon everything they had and move away from the area.
After 12 years of the collapse in Fukushima, some areas of the prefecture are safe to visit as the radiation in the area has reached a normal level, making it possible for people to explore the abandoned houses and cars in the area.
The scout found tons of vintage and JDM sports cars in the area
Visiting the site to quench his thirst for exploration, Bob Thissen found tons of vintage sports cars and Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) cars, reclaimed by nature.
The 34-year-old explorer traveled through exclusion zones that were safe to visit with his team, rounding up some of the vintage car dealerships that Bob had starred beforehand.
Thissen’s brave move to explore the area did not disappoint as he came across cars like the Porsche 911 Carrera (964), Nissan Skyline, Mercedes S Class, Nissan 300ZX, Nissan Silvia, Japanese hearses, Chevrolet Impala SS, Jaguar XJ , Honda S2000 , Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru STI.
Well, you might be wondering if the man had just struck a gold mine of vintage cars. However, everything is just a pipe dream. The cars are not lucrative at all and to be completely honest, he can’t even sell these cars for scrap. Although most of the cars in the area are in excellent condition, the radiation levels in their metal frames make them unusable and worthless. “It was a sad sight to see these collectibles in disrepair, especially when you know that each car had an owner who couldn’t get their vehicle back,” Bob said after discovering the cars.
