George Santos spent more than $1,300 in campaign cash at Republican club after House expulsion

George Santos’s congressional campaign splurged on a posh Republican club steps from the Capitol days after Santos became just the sixth House member to be expelled — and billed his donors for it, according to new documents .

The lying former Long Island representative’s campaign spent $1,367 on “meals” at the Capitol Hill Club on Dec. 4, according to a campaign finance report filed Wednesday.

Located adjacent to the Chamber office buildings and the Chamber chamber itself, the exclusive club provides membership by invitation only, according to its website. Its grill offers buffet breakfasts, lunches, dinners and cocktails.

Santos claimed early Thursday morning that he “the expenses in question occurred on November 2 and 15” and that “the Capitol Hill club bills my account between the 2nd and 4th of each month.”

His campaign listed other disbursements there during the last quarter of 2023.

Santos, 35, was ousted Dec. 1 after a scathing House Ethics Committee report concluded that he “brazenly stole from his campaign” and lied to donors.

The report highlighted a variety of discordant expenditures by Santos’ campaign or his political firms, including Botox purchases, Onlyfans subscriptions and more.

Wednesday’s filing with the Federal Election Commission shows the accused former congressman is still dealing with campaign finance issues.

His campaign is buried in debt, with outstanding obligations of about $776,080, records show.

Between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, his campaign raised $11,415 while distributing $11,857 and had $22,237 in cash on hand, the document shows.

During the fourth quarter of 2023, his campaign made at least three payments of around $2,000 to the Capitol Hill Club, the report states.

Last year, Santos was hit with 23 charges, including wire fraud, materially false statements to the FEC, aggravated identity theft, falsifying records and more.

Prosecutors allege that Santos bilked dollars from donors, conspired to manipulate his campaign finance accounts and lied about the entire affair.

Last fall, his former campaign treasurer, Nancy Marks, pleaded guilty to one count of fraud conspiracy and appears to have cooperated with authorities investigating Santos.

Santos has ruled out running for Congress in 2024, but has not kept the door closed to mounting a political comeback at some point in the future. He has also hinted at conversations with prosecutors.

After his exile, Santos has tried to settle scores in Congress, filing ethics reports and trying to drum up support to go after his political rivals.

“It’s time to expel [sic] @CoriBush and @IlhanMN!’ Santos posted X on Wednesday, alluding to two recent scandals surrounding the two members of the “Squad.”

Meanwhile, the battle to fill his empty seat is raging in New York’s 3rd Congressional District.

Santos’ predecessor, former Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-NY), is fighting Nassau County Legislator Mazi Melesa Pilip for the seat in a special election scheduled for Feb. 13.

The Congressional Leadership Fund, one of the Republican Party’s main super political action committees, plans to pour $2.6 million in television ads into the race during the two-week home stretch.
