In Chopra’s second attempt in the final, she threw the javelin 88.17 meters, which held the event record. Neeraj’s performance was a vast improvement over his silver medal performance at the 2022 World Cup.

The defending Olympic gold medalist didn’t have the best start in the final, reaching just 79m; Neeraj was clearly unhappy with the shot and decided not to register the score at all, stepping over the line to force a foul.

However, the Indian pitcher saved the best for the final; With the massive support of the crowd, Chopra took the run from him and began to rejoice even before the javelin could land.

The internet erupted in celebration. The congratulations started pouring in. One man wrote: “‘Neeraj chopra life’ Utho, Practice karo, Gold jeeto, So jao. Repeat 🔥❤️ #NeerajChopra.”

Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, who won the silver medal with a distance of 87.82 metres, joined him on the podium in second place. After the final, the two players shared a joyous moment on the pitch that caught the attention of fans on all social media.

Neeraj and Nadeem have been pushing each other on the pitch for a long time. Their friendship extends beyond the track, as the top two athletes have been seen sharing podium places on numerous occasions.

Chopra, the current world number one in the javelin, won Olympic gold at Tokyo 2020, but finished second at the World Cup in Eugene last year, when Anderson Peters took gold. Anju Bobby George, who won bronze in the women’s long jump in 2003 in Paris, was the only other Indian to medal at the Worlds.

In addition, the great javelin thrower from India became the third person in history to hold both the Olympic and world titles in the sport, after the legendary Jan Zelezny of the Czech Republic and Andreas Thorkildsen of Norway.
