As the days get shorter in the fall, people try to maximize their time. To help with this, Google is introducing 5 useful improvements to Chrome’s address bar, officially called omnibox. These changes will help users navigate the web more quickly.
New features coming to the omnibox include:
1. Smarter autocomplete using search keywords
The omnibox will now automatically complete sites based on any previously used search terms, not just typing the URL. For example, entering “flights” can automatically populate the Google Flights website, even without first typing google.com.
2. Automatic typo correction for URLs
Chrome can now fix typos in site addresses automatically using suggestions from your browsing history. This handy fix is now available on desktop, Android, and iOS.
3. Integrated bookmark search
It is now also possible to search within specific bookmark folders directly in the address bar. Simply include the folder name to see the relevant bookmarked pages.
4. Suggest popular websites
Even without visiting a popular site, Chrome will now suggest it as you type based on its overall popularity. This helps in the discovery of new useful sites.
5. Visual update to improve readability
A design update improves the readability and responsiveness of the omnibox drop-down menu for faster results as you type.
Together, these updates improve convenience by fixing typos, enabling discovery, and streamlining access to bookmarks and sites. They highlight Chrome’s constant improvements to maximize users’ browsing speed and efficiency.
