Google introduced a variety of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and technologies designed specifically for developers in India. These offers were announced at the inaugural I/O Connect event held in Bangalore.
The company made its fastest and most accurate large language AI model available to Indian developers through the PaLM API, Makersuite, and functions on Google Cloud’s Vertex AI.
Google Cloud has officially announced a new program in conjunction with the Department for the Promotion of Industry and Internal Commerce’s Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to help merchants build and scale commerce platforms across the country. Using retail AI technology and the PaLM API, the company offers an out-of-the-box implementation of the ONDC infrastructure and core APIs to help with scalability and security.
In addition, the tech giant announced a new start-up credit program where companies using ONDC can apply for a $25,000 grant.
Google is also opening up research models and its first data sets for the benefit of Indian developers through various initiatives. Google’s collaboration with the Indian Institute of Sciences as part of Project Vaani will result in the release of the first batch of voice data comprising more than 4,000 hours in 38 languages.
In an effort to improve infrastructure and urban planning, Google has introduced address descriptors to its mapping platform. This India-first experiment, available in more than 25 cities, simplifies address search and navigation using landmarks and area names. In addition, the company has provided Open Buildings information for more than 200 million locations, helping organizations plan infrastructure and social projects in bustling urban areas.
Google will launch a Trusted Tester program to provide developers with access to its healthcare AI model APIs, which can recognize pharmaceutical names on handwritten prescriptions.
In addition to these, the keynote highlighted many new AI-powered products, such as Studio Bot, which would help developers code more simply, and emphasized Google’s intention to extend its footprint in the smartwatch segments. and smart TVs from India.
Manish Gupta, director of Google Research India, told Business Standard during a Google meeting that the company will open the SeeGull database to assess and mitigate biases in natural language processing. The SeeGull database is a global benchmark of stereotypes with extensive geocultural coverage, including Indian stereotypes.
Gupta added, in response to Nasscom’s recent guidelines for the responsible use of generative AI: “We appreciate the efforts of policymakers around the world to develop proportionate risk-based regulations that promote reliable, robust, and trustworthy AI applications.” . We were one of the first companies to publish a set of AI principles (2018), and we detect and manage risks using an AI risk assessment approach.
