In 2016, Google released its first Pixel phone. Since then, there have been several follow-ups. Google’s Pixel 6A is expected to go on sale on July 21, 2022. This phone is priced low for all the great features it packs. This Google Pixel 6A review details the phone’s special features to help you decide if it’s the right phone for you. Let’s dive in!
Google Pixel 6a review with full specs
Design and display
Google has verified that the Pixel 6a’s screen measures 6.1 inches, which makes it somewhat more compact than the Pixel 6’s screen, which is 6.4 inches. We think Google will use an OLED screen with a 1080p resolution for the Pixel 6a. But the Pixel 6a’s display only refreshes at 60Hz, which is a big difference from the Pixel 6’s display, which refreshes at 90Hz.
Images from Google show that the design of the Pixel 6a is the same as the Pixel 6. There’s a large camera bar, a two-tone color scheme, and much more. Oddly enough, the construction of the phone is made of glass and metal. Most low-cost electronics are made of plastic. The Pixel 6a, on the other hand, has a Gorilla Glass 6 screen and a battery that can hold 4306 mAh. The base model of the Google Pixel 6 has a screen made of Gorilla Glass Victus and a 4614 mAh battery.
The Google Pixel 6a comes in three colors: green, black, and white (or silver). AT&T says it measures 2.8 inches long, 6 inches wide, and 0.35 inches thick. Google has not shown any cases or other accessories that can be used with the phone.
Performance
Unsurprisingly, the Google Pixel 6a uses the same tensor chip as the Pixel 6. This means that many of its features, like Live Translate and Magic Eraser, are powered by AI. What’s more notable is that it’s a hint that the Pixel 6a will deliver superior performance at a very cheap price.
Obviously, the Pixel 6a doesn’t match the Pixel 6’s tech specs perfectly. For example, AT&T says that the Google Pixel 6a only has 128 gigabytes of storage space inside. That’s half of what the Pixel 6 comes with in its normal configuration.
We don’t know about other specs yet, like how much RAM it will have. But the base model Pixel 6 comes with 8 gigabytes of RAM, so it’s probably safe to assume that Google won’t go much lower than that.
Google Tensor says that the Pixel 6a will receive three updates to its operating system to Android 15 and security patches until the summer of 2027. This would make the Pixel 6a last a long time for a phone that costs as much as it does.
It will come with Android 12 already installed. This will give you access to Material You and give you better privacy features. It will also get Android 13 in the fall, giving it better theming and some small UI changes, as well as many other new features.

Camera
Almost all Pixel phones have a 12-megapixel Sony IMX363 as the main sensor. With the Pixel 6, Google broke this pattern by adding a 50-megapixel lens. The Pixel 6a’s 12MP sensor is outdated, which is a bummer for photography fans. But the “downgrade” is not something that worries most people much.
The hardware does not determine how good a pixel photo is. Google uses state-of-the-art computational photography techniques that allow the company to take high-quality images with equipment that should be old. Even if this 12MP lens can’t beat the Pixel 6’s 50MP lens, it’s still better than any other camera on a phone under $450.
Since we haven’t had a chance to test the Google Pixel 6a yet, you should take this conclusion with a grain of salt because it’s just a guess.
Note that the Pixel 6a has an 8-megapixel camera on the front and a 12-megapixel camera with an ultra-wide lens on the back. These are most likely the same cameras that come with the Google Pixel 6 device.

Google Pixel 6a price
We thought that since the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro came out at a lower price than the Pixel 5, the Pixel 6a would follow suit. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and the Pixel 6a costs $449.
We don’t know if Google wanted to sell the Pixel 6a for less, but was forced to keep the same price due to chip shortages. No matter what, $449 isn’t a bad price either. The Google Pixel 5a 5G cost the same when it first came out.
Conclusion
Google’s new Pixel 6A won’t break the bank, and its features are almost exactly the same as the company’s full-size phones, though it costs less. Although it has the same Tensor chipset as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, the Google Pixel 6a’s camera isn’t as good as the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. It will be available in the US first. EE, a UK-based network, was the first to say that the contracts would be available on this side of the Atlantic.
