The new WhatsApp reactions begin to arrive on Android: this is how they work

With a new update last week, WhatsApp users were able to start using emoji reactions. But not many Android or iOS users received the update. This makes sense as updates with new features are often first tested on a small group of users to see if there are any weird bugs that haven’t been fixed.

But the feature is now rolling out to more WhatsApp users. With a new update for Android and iOS devices, now more people can use the emoji reaction feature.

On Facebook Messenger and Instagram, you can now use emoji reactions. Allow people to reply to each message with an emoji in their own way. On iOS, Android, and WhatsApp Web, you can see reactions in group and one-on-one chats. When WhatsApp confirmed its “Community” feature, set to launch later this year, the feature was first announced. This is what the feature looks like on an iOS device.

WhatsApp emoji reaction: this is how to use it

As seen in the image, which was taken from the WhatsApp app for iOS, users will have six pre-selected emojis to choose from when replying to a message. When a user long-presses on a message, all six emojis will appear. Users can then tap on the emoji they want to send as a response.

Right now, there are six emojis: a thumbs up, a heart, a smiley face, a surprised face, a sad face with a tear, and a praying face. These six emojis can’t be changed, so you can’t reply with a different one, at least for now. But this feature could be added to the platform in the future.

Reports say that WhatsApp could also add sticker reactions and GIF reactions. These features were recently seen in a developer build and may be coming to stable builds in the future.

In other news, WhatsApp is also testing emoji reactions for status updates. This feature, which is also in beta right now, will allow people to reply to other people’s status updates with emojis, just like on Instagram. A leaked report says that WhatsApp for desktop will have eight sticky reactions, but it is not yet clear how many we will have on Android and iOS.
