A man who refused to change his carefully selected, pre-booked seats for those of an “entitled” pregnant woman on an airline has won praise. This recent incident also gave rise to discussions about appropriate in-flight behavior and the expectations of other passengers.
The man’s decision sparked a flurry of comments on social media, with some applauding his right to keep his seat and others denouncing what they saw as a lack of empathy. This is what happened.

What happened on the flight?
In the now-viral Reddit post, he revealed that he was traveling alone to see his family for the holidays and had carefully chosen an aisle seat near the bathroom.
“A woman begged me to give her my seat so she could sit closer to the bathroom right before boarding. Despite being pregnant, she didn’t seem upset,” he wrote.
The post, “AITA (Am I the idiot) and for not giving up my plane seat to a pregnant woman?” was uploaded to Reddit on December 15 by user u/michaeldonelly. She clarified that she had to pay more since she occasionally needs “quick access to the bathroom” due to a medical condition.
The user stated that, therefore, he was not willing to change his seating arrangement.
“I didn’t feel it was fair to demand that I move from the seat I planned and paid for, especially since she hadn’t reserved an aisle seat in advance,” he stated in his post.
The social media user also claimed that there were no empty aisle seats available to accommodate the pregnant woman’s request and that the flight attendants made no effort to help her resolve the issue.
In closing, he said that his family supported her because they thought he should have “caused himself inconvenience.”
