A tooth designer, also known as a CAD/CAM dental technician, is a qualified specialist who designs dental restorations such as crowns and bridges using specialized computer software.

Another Redditor said: “My husband is a dentist and his ‘luxury’ crown lab makes $$$… very expensive to use, but his crowns are phenomenal.”

2. Ice sculptor

“I once met a professional ice sculptor who did corporate events and weddings for a living,” said Reddit user IndependenceNo2060. “It’s a specialized experience, but the money is really good.”

4. Producer of artificial flavors.

“My father was a master flavorist,” said one Reddit user. “He created artificial flavors for candy, drinks and a variety of other products. During his career, he made A LOT of money.”

Another user, die_lahn, stated that he is an analytical chemist who reverse engineers flavors and that the work is extremely complex: “Figuring out how you can make a naturally occurring citrus flavor taste the same every time you have to get your extracts and “Oils from different places in the world, at different times of the year, although the stock may be of a different age due to supply issues, can be much more complex than one might think.”

5. Bat Tracking Device

An urban bat tracker is responsible for monitoring and researching bat populations in urban areas, which involves a combination of scientific research and field work.

“My work combines science and solitude. I map their flight, study their behavior and contribute to critical research for the conservation of the urban ecosystem, armed with detectors that translate bats’ echolocation into something audible,” said a Reddit user.

“The salary is really good. It’s a specialized subject and it can be difficult to gain knowledge about urban animal ecology.”

6. Manual pollinators

A hand pollinator pollinates plants manually and is essential in the agricultural economy.

“My aunt and her daughter do seasonal jobs as manual pollinators and harvesters,” commented Reddit user solarblack. Certain plants, such as saffron and vanilla orchids, have very short pollination or harvest periods ranging from a few hours to half a day. As a result, farmers need someone who can work quickly and delicately to manually pollinate or harvest these plants.

7. Pineapple harvester

According to one Reddit user, they previously worked as pine cone pickers: “A helicopter cut the tops of the trees and brought them to us so we could collect the pine cones, which would then go to the tree planters to germinate and plant.”

They claimed they were paid $35 to fill a five-gallon bucket and that expert pickers could fill two and a half buckets every hour. “But the sap that gets on clothes, skin and hair is very annoying and a great deterrent for most.”
