Hochul first learned of the death of his father, John Courtney, from a brain hemorrhage while visiting the Western Wall on a trip to Israel after the brutal Hamas attack.
Courtney worked as a steel plant employee and was a devout Catholic.

Hochul said he had the same feeling toward Cornell students.
“I told him, ‘I’m going to protect you.’ That is my number one job as governor of the state,” Hochul told Segal.
