Homeless man dies after being hit by three cars in Los Angeles, without any stopping to help

A homeless man wrapped in a blanket was fatally hit by three different drivers on a Los Angeles street, none of whom stopped to help him as he lay dying in the middle of the road.

The first collision occurred shortly before midnight Friday, when a light-colored pickup truck driving in the wrong direction collided with the victim while crossing San Fernando Road in the Pacoima neighborhood, police said.

Still images from surveillance video from Amgad Kahlil’s nearby business show the man being run over as the vehicle that hit him continues to move forward.

“No one deserves this, no one,” Khalil told NBC Los Angeles. “I wouldn’t wish that on my enemy.”

The victim, believed to be a man in his 20s or 30s, survived the initial impact and appeared to be struggling to get back on his feet.

Another vehicle traveling on the opposite side of the road briefly braked next to the injured man, but did not stop.

He was then soon hit by a person driving a light-colored SUV and thrown several meters.

Eventually, a dark-colored SUV struck the man and dragged him a short distance before fleeing the scene, according to Khalil.

Khalil did not witness the three consecutive accidents in real time, but he rushed to the man’s aid as soon as he heard what happened.

“I went up to him, turned on the light and he wasn’t breathing,” said the business owner.

The man later died from his injuries.

He had not been identified as of Wednesday.

Khalil said he recognized the victim as a homeless man whom he often saw walking around wrapped in a blanket.

He was horrified by the apparent callousness of the three drivers who did not bother to stop after hitting the innocent pedestrian.

“What would you have thought if it was one of your relatives?” Khalil wondered. “I don’t know what kind of soul these people have, but I guess not.”

Police are still searching for the trio of motorists involved in the fatal hit-and-run crash.
