A Louisiana high school student with a 4.2 GPA has had her scholarship support withdrawn after a video of her “twerking” at a party after her homecoming was posted on social media.
Kaylee Timonet, 17, a senior at Walker High School in Walker, Louisiana, was also removed as president of the student government association after the video, which was filmed at the private event at Livingston Parish Country Club on Sept. 30. September, according to local news blog Unfiltered with Kiran.
The video, which has since been deleted, allegedly showed the teen dancing behind a friend who was “twerking” at the late-night party, which Timonet’s mother was attending.
The DJ who played at the party, and filmed and posted the video, told the outlet that the dancing was harmless.
“The way those children danced was not bad. “I’ve seen a lot worse,” DJ Savage said. “They were really kids having fun.”

Timonet was called to the school’s main office Tuesday morning and began crying when Principal Jason St. Pierre showed her the video, the distraught teen told Unfiltered.
“They basically told me that I should be ashamed of myself and that they were worried about my future life if I didn’t basically follow God’s ideals, which made me cry even more,” she said.
“I felt like my life was over.”

After allegedly berating her at the meeting, St. Pierre also informed the star student that he was withdrawing his application for the scholarship, which is only awarded to two students each year.
“All I did was have innocent fun. “I was mortified,” Timonet said.
Her mother, Rachel Timonet, had her own meeting with the principal on Wednesday and was outraged that she was not included in the initial meeting held with her youngest daughter.
The school community has rallied behind Timonet, selling T-shirts with slogans like “Let the Girl Dance” and “I Support Kaylee Timonet,” which have also been plastered on social media in solidarity.
The mother disagreed with the “unfair” punishment imposed on her teenage daughter.
“There were other people dancing in that video who are also on the dance team to whom nothing happened. “She said she was punished because she is the ‘hood ornament’ of the school.”
Rachel Timonet also criticized St. Pierre for allegedly questioning her daughter about her religious faith.
“It is a public school, not a private school. You have no right to talk about any type of religion with my son,” the angry father told Unfiltered.

The outpouring of support, Timonet says, has been a key part of helping her get over the humiliating incident.
“The video was not at all inappropriate. “I was really afraid that people would hate me after that, so to see that people supported me no matter what and to see that my achievements were still being noticed means a lot,” she said.
Walker is a small city with a population of about 6,100 and is located about 22 miles from Baton Rouge.
