Hostages, SWAT officer and suspect killed in Austin, TX after maniac trap victims

A deranged man barricaded in a home in Austin, Texas, with two hostages, opened fire on police officers and killed a member of a SWAT team.

Violence unfolded in South Austin around 4 a.m. when Austin Police SWAT officers forced entry into the home where the maniac was allegedly armed with a knife and gun and had taken hostages, the acting chief announced. Police Officer Robin Henderson at a news conference Saturday morning.

A woman who managed to escape called police shortly before 3 a.m., screamed for help and said she had been stabbed, Henderson said.

Officers responded to the call and forced entry inside, but retreated when the suspect opened fire.

They then called the SWAT team and entered around 4 a.m., Henderson said.
