Republican Rep. Mike Collins on Thursday introduced legislation that would prohibit the Biden administration from cutting barbed wire and tearing down other barriers that Texas has erected near the southern border.
The Restraining Administration Zealots of Forced Raiders (RAZOR) Act prohibits “removing or otherwise altering any state-constructed barrier installed to mitigate illegal immigration.”
“President Biden is aiding and abetting illegal aliens swarming our border and raiding our country’s resources. Why else would he try to stop the state of Texas from returning them to Mexico? Collins (R-Ga.) said in a statement.
“As the Supreme Court sides with the Biden administration’s America Last policies, Congress must support Governor Greg Abbott in his fight for the sovereignty of his state and our nation.”
The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday vacated a lower court injunction barring the Biden administration from cutting concertina wire, also called barbed wire or barbed wire, placed by Texas law enforcement officials while a lawsuit is developed on the matter.

Texas had tried to block the administration from removing the cable and had filed a court challenge for months.
Biden officials argued in court that Border Patrol agents should be able to cut the sharp wire to deal with emergency medical situations.
After the decision, Abbott promised to continue using the cable and indicated that the Lone Star State would not prevent the federal government from accessing sections of the US-Mexico border.

“If the Supreme Court does not allow states to defend their sovereignty and our nation, Congress has a moral imperative to act.” Collins added in X.
In a separate case, the Justice Department sued Texas to remove a floating barrier on the Rio Grande. Last week, a federal appeals court overturned an earlier ruling, allowing the barrier to remain in place for now.
On Wednesday, Abbott declared that Texas has a right to self-defense that “supersedes any federal statute to the contrary.”
Other Republican officials, including Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, came to Abbott’s defense.

“It’s unfortunate that there is a governor in Texas, Governor Abbott, who has politicized this issue of what’s happening at the border,” the White House press secretary said. Karine Jean-Pierre told CNN on Thursday.
“He’s actually putting Border Patrol agents in danger by doing what he’s doing.”
Abbott responded during an interview with Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom,” calling that comment “very misinformed” and downplaying the Supreme Court’s order.
“They did not write any type of opinion. “All they did was vacate an order from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals back to the Fifth Circuit,” he told the network.

“There was no opinion on anything related to barbed wire,” added Abbott, who said he was confident Texas could win on the merits.
Abbott has been in constant disputes with the Biden administration over the border since the president took office in January 2021.
Under Operation Lone Star, the Texas administration claims to have sent more than 100,000 immigrants to blue cities and made more than 496,000 arrests of illegal immigrants.
Meanwhile, the United States is seeing record numbers of illegal crossings at the southern border.
During fiscal year 2023, a record 2,475,669 migrant encounters were recorded along the border with Mexico, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Preliminary data indicate that more than 300,000 encounters with immigrants were recorded in December.
