NEWS: Emmerdale star Dale Meeks dies at 47 as tributes arrive. Meeks, who was born in South Shields, Tyne and Wear, was also a singer and won ITV’s Stars in Their Eyes celebrity special with fellow Emmerdale actor Mark Charnock as the Blues Brothers. In addition to his television roles, he starred in the stage in productions including The Producers at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester, and A Christma Carol at the West Yorkshire Playhouse. He also played Amos Hart on the UK tour of Hi Show Chicago and appeared in the Wes End production of Love Never Dies.

The tributes have been pouring in after the death of Emmerdale star Dale Meeks was announced tonight. He was just 47 years old, the news of his death spread through a Facebook post from a family member. Dale Meeks played Simon Meredith on Emmerdale between 2003 and 2006. He also reportedly starred in Byker Groove as Greg in the 1990s and played Rory Sutcliffe on ITV’s The Hunt for Raoul Moat. A relative claimed his death in a post that read: ‘So unbelievably sad. Brother in law, mucca, sidekick and just the BEST friend he could have wished for. RIP Dale Meeks. Much less to laugh about now that you’re not there to share it.
Dale’s family member added and thanked everyone for all the beautiful messages and memories you’ve been sharing. The support from Dale’s friends has been incredibly strong during these last chaotic and heartbreaking hours. Dale had been a recognizable face on stage and screen for the past three decades, starring opposite Ant and Dec in Byker Grove in the ’90s, before becoming a very familiar face in the soap opera world as Simon Meredith on Emmerdale. . Another of Dale’s memorable TV appearances came when she and her Emmerdale co-star Mark Charnock earned Celebrity Stars in their eyes as the Blues Brothers, and Dale was also the front man for South Tyneside blues band Shake Your Tail Feather. . Dale toured the country in the cast of Chicago and also had a role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Love Never Dies.
Tributes flooded in on Dale on Facebook, with fellow South Tynesider Stephan Sullivan left heartbroken by Dale’s death. Dale was a talented man and he had more to give. He was loved and respected more than he knew. He will be greatly missed as he had a heart as big as his talent and sense of humor. There were also tributes to Dale on Twitter, with one social media user writing, ‘Gutted to hear the news about @dalemeeks RIP while another tweeted, ‘RIP Dale Meeks, definitely a huge shock.
