WhatsApp has added a new feature that allows people to use the same account on more than one device. WhatsApp chat app users can now use their account on up to four devices at once.
The Meta-owned platform said the new feature will allow users to connect each device to WhatsApp on its own and ensure that texts, media and calls are end-to-end encrypted.
If the main device is not used for a long time, all other devices that are linked to the user’s WhatsApp account will be immediately disconnected. WhatsApp has said that linking phones as companion devices will make chatting easier for users by allowing them to switch between devices without having to sign out and allowing them to pick up where they left off.
The tool will also help small business owners, and a company employee will now be able to reply to customers through the same business WhatsApp account.
The chat platform has announced a new way to link companion devices that is “different and easier to use.” The new tool has been rolled out worldwide and all users will be able to use it in the coming weeks.
WhatsApp Web users do not have to read a QR code to get a unique code. Instead, they can write their phone numbers. They can then use this code on their phone to pair their devices.
Meta, the company that owns the platform, added the new feature at a time when it was trying to do more to protect the privacy of its users. In a recent update, WhatsApp made it possible for users to automatically post their WhatsApp status to their Facebook story if they turned on the feature.
Earlier this year, WhatsApp made it possible to choose who can see status changes and who can’t. Users can now choose who can see their status changes.
