Huge line of thousands of migrants seen trying to get on the train to the US border

Countless migrants have been lining the tracks of a freight train line headed to the United States through Eagle Pass, Texas, apparently hoping to climb aboard and hitchhike to the border, according to reports.

The migrants were filmed near the Mexican city of Piedras Negras, according to shocking footage obtained by Fox News, located just across the border from the main US port of entry at Eagle Pass.

A seemingly endless line of immigrants laden with luggage and children raised their hands and cheered as the train passed at a steady pace. In the images no migrant is seen jumping on board.

Train hopping has become a common strategy for migrants making long journeys from their homes in South and Central America to reach the U.S. border faster and with much less effort than walking.

It has become so common that in September Mexico’s largest freight line, Ferromex, halted operations on 60 northbound trains due to an “unprecedented” number of migrants boarding to hitchhike.

The practice saw an uptick in September, Ferromex said, and even caused “half a dozen unfortunate cases of injury or death” among migrants.

The Eagle Pass port of entry has also been forced to scale back its normal border operations amid the surge in migrants.

On December 4, one of the two bridges crossing the Rio Grande into the United States from Mexico was closed so that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents could consolidate their resources in the face of the unprecedented arrival of migrants.

In addition to the closure of Eagle Pass, three other ports of entry in California and Arizona were also closed “indefinitely.”

CBP’s October figures alone showed that 52,000 migrants had presented themselves to agents at border crossings seeking to enter the United States, but that an additional 189,000 had been found trying to enter illegally along the hundreds of miles of remote desert border. between the seasons.

Fiscal year 2023, which ended Sept. 30, saw the highest number of people detained trying to cross into the United States since authorities began tracking it in 1960: a staggering 2.4 million people.

Those numbers have shown no signs of slowing down.

On December 5, one day after the Eagle Pass closure began, 12,000 people were found trying to cross the southern border, a single-day record.
