In Mumbai, a comedian faced early eviction from his rented apartment amid the lockdown.
Feeling unsafe in his current living situation, Kashyap Swaroop agreed to vacate the premises as per the landlord’s request.
The owner assured refund of the deposit of INR 60,000 upon departure. However, after handing over the keys, communication from the owner ceased, prompting Swaroop to seek help from X and consult with lawyers.
Later, he approached the police seeking support in the matter. The Mumbai Police intervened, facilitating the resolution of the issue and ensuring that the comedian received the promised deposit refund.
On the microblogging platform, user Kashyap Swaroop shared: “My landlord asked me to vacate my house before the lockdown period ended. He has not refunded me 60% of my security deposit despite leaving the house in excellent condition. conditions.

Swaroop offered a full description of the incident, supported by screenshots of the WhatsApp conversation. According to messages exchanged, the owner promised to refund the security deposit upon Swaroop’s departure. Even though Swaroop left the premises as agreed, the owner reneged on his promise, saying, “Please do what you have to do. Thank you.” Swaroop shared the screenshot of this WhatsApp exchange on Twitter, expressing his frustration with the owners for what he described as a “massive ego trip.”
He asked for help and sought support to deal with the situation. A few hours later, Swaroop provided an update, expressing his gratitude to @MumbaiPolice for their quick resolution: “Very grateful to @MumbaiPolice for resolving this immediately.
I guess there is still a silver lining in Mumbai.” In the comments, he detailed the police’s request for him to visit the station and share his side of the story. Despite the owner’s initial insistence on a deposit transfer, the extract Swaroop banking revealed otherwise.
An hour later, the problem was solved. Swaroop disclosed additional costs incurred, including moving charges and deductions, resulting in a loss of $30,000, along with furniture manufactured in the previous home.
