The Good Samaritan who helped deputies apprehend a man suspected of assault is being commended by the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO). While traveling from Owasso to Tulsa on Highway 75, they said the witness saw a man assault a woman in a car and called 911. Body camera footage of officers arresting Robert Grayson was released Tulsa County Sheriff. In the footage, police officers can be heard saying: “You are under arrest for domestic assault and battery.” According to deputies, the caller reported seeing a swerving car and said Grayson was about to hit a woman inside.
Is the Good Samaritan arrested?
According to TCSO’s Casey Roebuck, “You can see the male driver of the car is physically assaulting a female passenger, just viciously kicking her, hitting her, and the car is all over the road.” The Good Samaritan followed the car to Tulsa, according to deputies, providing them with a description of what was going on and where they were.
During the course of the 911 call, Roebuck said, “He was relaying the location and what was happening from the county, where he called us, to the city of Tulsa, where the suspect was going.” At a red light around Riverside and 39th, deputies say, the victim tried to get out of the vehicle. The driver then accelerated, causing the victim to be thrown from the car. Roebuck said: “At certain points throughout this trip, the woman is basically leaning out the window trying to get people’s help, trying to get out of the car. Grayson was detained by officers at his residence, but insisted he was the victim.
In the body cam video, Grayson can be heard saying, “Look at my forehead and my face where he hit me.” The deputies claimed that they knew the lady was not the attacker as the Good Samaritan observed what had occurred. The TCSO reported that the helpful stranger did the right thing and helped them safely and remotely. “He Observed and reported, and that’s exactly what we want people to do,” Roebuck added. “Be our eyes and ears, watch and report back, but don’t put yourself in danger,” the message reads. He went on to say, “She hopes this will serve as a lesson if someone is brave enough to attack her partner in a public area like a highway. They must be aware that others are watching and are prepared to act to help this person. So this was all about this case. So, stay tuned for PKB news.
