Israeli soldiers and Gaza medical workers capture 20 Hamas terrorists hiding in hospital

Israeli troops captured about 20 Hamas terrorists who were hiding inside a Khan Younis hospital in Gaza, while the Jewish army, aided by medical personnel, awaited the delivery of oxygen tanks, officials say.

Several of the Israel Defense Forces’ special units were deployed to Al-Amal Hospital last week after intelligence suggested that Hamas members were operating within civilian space, the Israeli military said on Saturday.

With the help of Al-Amal Hospital staff, soldiers were able to locate the terrorists and subdue them without shooting or altering any medical procedures.

“This operation once again demonstrates the cynical modus operandi of the Hamas terrorist organization, which uses hospitals and the civilian population to hide terrorists,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

The Hamas members were detained and transported to Israel for interrogation, the army added.

After the arrests, the IDF worked with the Gaza Coordination and Liaison Administration to deliver more than 20 donated oxygen tanks to the hospital.

The IDF noted that before the operation, its troops were briefed on “the importance of preventing harm to patients, medical personnel, civilians and medical equipment, in accordance with international law.”

Like other medical facilities located throughout Gaza, Al-Amal Hospital has struggled to care for its patients as the conflict between Israel and Hamas has left tens of thousands of people injured.

So far, nearly 68,000 people have been injured by the war and the death toll in Gaza exceeds 28,000, according to the Hamas-run Health Ministry.

The arrests at Al-Amal hospital were just some of hundreds that occurred last week in Khan Younis, which continues to see the heaviest fighting of the war.

As the IDF advances through Khan Younis, the largest city in southern Gaza, hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees who fled the north have since fled further south to Rafah.

Rafah, now Gaza’s most populous city and home to more than 1.4 million refugees, could suffer unprecedented levels of loss of civilian life as the IDF prepares to invade to destroy Hamas terrorists and try to locate to the 136 hostages remaining in Gaza.

On Saturday, 43 Palestinians were killed in an airstrike in Rafah that killed Iman Rantisi, a senior Hamas police official.

President Biden warned Israel on Sunday not to advance toward the southern Gaza city of Rafah “without a credible and enforceable plan to ensure security and support for the more than one million people sheltering there.”
