Italian Restaurant Sparks Debate By Charging Family ₹1,800 To Slice Birthday Cake

A family in Italy was shocked when a restaurant billed them 20 euros (equivalent to Rs. 1,800) for slicing their cake into 20 portions. According to a report by the New York Post, the incident occurred during a birthday celebration at a restaurant in Palermo, Sicily.

The family’s expenditure on pizzas and beverages amounted to approximately ₹10,000.

However, the bill included an unexpected charge labeled as “20 X Servizio Torta” or “20 x cake service.”

This additional fee left the diners baffled, as they struggled to comprehend the justification for such a seemingly excessive cost for a basic service.

The incident triggered a variety of responses from social media users. While some were taken aback, others stood by the restaurant’s decision. One user left a comment, saying, “You can have your cake and eat it too…..for a price”

Anothe comment read: “Imagine bringing outside food to a restaurant and then not charging you for said food. …. The audacity.”

“Slice it? Or slice it, plate it, and serve it (with clean fork) to a table full of people when the cake was brought in, not purchased at the restaurant?”read another comment.
