Javier Olivan is an American engineer who is the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Meta Inc. He played a crucial role in driving Facebook’s explosive growth for 15 years. He completed an MBA in Business from Stanford University from 2005 to 2007. Olivan received the Spanish government’s first and second prizes for academic excellence while studying at the University of Navarra.
Biography
Olivan grew up in the Pyrenees region of northern Spain. He is an electrical and industrial engineer from the University of Navarra and a master’s degree in business administration from Stanford University.
Olivan joined Facebook as head of international growth in 2007. Before that, he worked at Japan’s NTT and Siemens. When he joined, Facebook was a young company with around 40 million users and now has almost 3.6 billion users on Facebook and other apps like Instagram. While overseeing his international moves, Olivan drove Facebook’s expansion to countries such as India, Japan, Russia, Indonesia and Brazil.
