Jerome Godwin III: discover his incredible voice in season 23 of The Voice

Jerome Godwin is an American singer and songwriter. He gained fame after appearing as a contestant on the 23rd season of NBC’s singing competition show, The Voice. The show is judged by four big-name figures: Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Chance the Rapper and Niall Horan.

Early life

Jerome Godwin was born in Marianna, Florida and raised in Ashford, Alabama. He attended Chipley High School in Florida before enrolling at Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama.

From a young age, Jerome had his sights set on a musical career and released his first song, “I’m Still a Kid,” before he was 12 years old.

In an interview, Jerome said that he grew up in a family passionate about music and that as a child he enjoyed watching his mother play the piano in church every Sunday. His lifelong love of music and creativity developed from his early exposure to these influences. He said: ((AUM))

“My grandparents on both sides of the family know how to sing along with my aunts and uncles. “My mother plays the piano and I grew up watching her play in church and for many well-known people, which definitely inspired my interest in music.”

Family

Jerome’s parents, Jerome Godwin II and Donna Godwin, are both from Jackson County. His mother graduated from Marianna High School in 1993. His father graduated from Cottondale High School in 1993.

His paternal grandparents are Cottondale residents Jerome Godwin I and Blanche Godwin. His maternal grandparents are Don and Saundrette Taylor of Marianna.

Career

Jerome was feeling nervous but determined as he stepped up to the microphone for his second audition on The Voice. Although the first time he attempted the show it didn’t go as planned, with no chairs turning, John Legend had seen potential in it and encouraged Jerome to return.

Jerome released a gospel-inspired single called “My Everything” last spring.

Jerome has led praise and worship and served as music director for seven churches. Currently, he serves as a worship leader at Northview Christian Church Safe Harbor in Montgomery, Alabama.

In an interview with Auburn, Jerome revealed that his musical inspirations include Kim Burrell, John Legend, Brandy and Todd Dulaney. In 2019, she appeared on the Lifetime show “Ms. T’s Music Factory” in which Temmora Levy gives advice to aspiring musicians. Jerome also attempted to appear on American Idol in 2019.

In 2023, she performed Ariana Grande’s “pov” during The Voice Blind Auditions and earned two chair turns from Niall Horan and Kelly Clarkson. She subsequently decided to join Team Niall.
