Legendary comedian and actor Jon Lovitz lashed out at HBO host Jon Oliver this week after the British talk show host berated the United States for supporting Israel and the “suffering” it has caused in Gaza following the massacre of Hamas on October 7.
Lovitz responded to a social media post from Oliver’s talk show. with a post noting how the United States would obviously support its “democratic ally” Israel in relation to the radical terrorist group that killed more than 1,400 people in the country last month.
Rejecting the British HBO host’s skepticism about the US alliance with Israel, Lovitz declared: “God bless America. #IamwithIsrael.”
The Jewish-American comedian posted X on Monday in response to the late-night host’s recent segment on the topic during the latest episode of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.”
During the segment, Oliver laid out how American money, weapons and training have increased the “suffering” of Palestinians at the hands of Israel. After playing a video of a Palestinian telling reporters how his daughter was killed by American weapons in the hands of Israelis, Oliver commented that the “made in America” slogan that we are all so “proud” of is being tied to “things that they are killing people.”

He went on to say: “Israel is bombing relentlessly. Once again, thousands of people have been killed in Gaza so far, which honestly shouldn’t come as a total surprise given that previously an IDF spokesperson said out loud that ‘the emphasis is on damage and not accuracy. ‘”.
“And there have been some infuriating efforts to downplay the suffering in Gaza,” Oliver added.
Lovitz took issue with the way Oliver raised the issue. He responded in X, saying: “Yes. The United States is aligned with Israel, our democratic ally, not Hamas, a terrorist organization that broke a two-year ceasefire, murdered at least 1,200 innocent civilians, and took 240 civilians hostage. So they could start an endless war with Israel and annihilate Israel and then the Jews around the world.”

Lovitz wasn’t done. He posted again about Oliver’s clip, this time sharing an Israel Today article titled: “Hamas terrorists confess to raping corpses, beheading children.” The comedian told Oliver: “Please talk about this on your next show.”
The comedian has supported Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas on the social media platform in recent weeks.
Last week, Lovitz lashed out at Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) after the lawmaker criticized the United States for wanting to fund Israel’s “long-term military occupation of an already battered and impoverished people.”

The comedian did not hold back and wrote: “Well you have done a great job keeping peace in the region. They don’t want peace. They want to kill all Israelis. Read this article and find out.”
He added: “Are you really that naive? You are not a communist, you are a democratic socialist. Oh… that’s like saying: I’m not a Christian, I’m a Jew for Jesus! I can’t believe you’re Jewish. “You are the most anti-Israel senator I have ever seen.”
