On June 27, 1964, the Teen Murti Bhavan which was the official residence of Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru was converted into the Nehru Memorial Museum.
2008 – Anniversary of the death of India’s first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw
Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw was the first Indian Army officer to be promoted to the rank of Field Marshal. Popularly known as Sam Bahadur (Brave Sam), Field Marshal Manekshaw was known for his wit and directness.
Sam Manekshaw played a crucial role in the history of the Indian Army, especially during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. He was instrumental in leading the Indian forces to a decisive victory, resulting in the creation of Bangladesh.
Sam Manekshaw retired from the Indian Army in 1973 and lived a quiet life in his later years. He passed away on June 27, 2008 in Wellington, Tamil Nadu, India.
