Vice President Kamala Harris apparently confessed to the difficulties in getting her and President Biden’s message to Black voters, saying they will both have to “earn our re-election” in 2024.
Harris, in an interview with CNN published Sunday, suggested that the Biden administration’s “really long” list of achievements for Black Americans makes it difficult to ensure the message is heard.
“In some ways,” he told the outlet, “there’s actually probably an obstacle, because the list is so long and we have to sort through what we repeat over and over again to make sure it resonates and is really heard.” .”
Harris, who rarely gives interviews, has long been optimistic about the Biden campaign’s chances of victory, maintaining that the stakes are high given former President Donald Trump’s chances of securing the Republican nomination.
Still, he emphasized that the Biden-Harris campaign does not take re-election for granted.
“We’re going to have to earn re-election, there’s no doubt about it,” he told CNN during the telephone interview aboard Air Force Two following a trip earlier this month to officially run in the Democratic primary in South Carolina.

A flurry of Democrats have expressed frustration with the campaign’s overall messaging strategy, distraught by polls showing voters giving Biden poor marks on the economy despite low levels of unemployment.
Republicans have long criticized Biden over inflation and his energy policies.
Many Democrats, like the First Lady’s former press secretary, Michael LaRosa, have demanded a recalibration of messaging and urged Biden to abandon “Bidenomy” rhetoric.
Harris touted the administration’s efforts to champion issues that concern many young voters, such as combating climate change, reducing gun violence, safeguarding abortion rights and more.
“The president has been determined, he has been firm, he has been consistent in seeing the challenges that young people face in the United States and addressing them with real solutions,” he insisted to CNN.

He also explained that he does not compare “this cycle with what previous vice presidents have done in a re-election.”
“I have a great sense of duty and responsibility to do everything I can, to be where the people are and not only talk to them, but also listen to them and let them know what we have achieved.”
Recently, many younger Democrats appear to have distanced themselves from party elders over Biden’s handling of the war between Israel and Hamas.

The South Carolina primary, to be held on February 3, 2024, will be the first recognized primary for Democrats, although New Hampshire plans to hold an earlier unauthorized one.
The 2024 general election will take place on November 5, 2024.
