King Charles has given Major Johnny Thompson a glittering promotion, making him the monarch’s new right-hand man, according to a report.
Nicknamed “Major Eye Candy” by social media users, Major Thompson once again caught the public’s attention at the King’s coronation in May, and it looks like we’ll be seeing more of him from now on.
“The King is pulling a decent stunt by choosing a social media sensation as his right-hand man,” a source told The Sun, adding that the “fabulous” assistant will now become a “super squire.”
Major Thompson, known for appearing alongside the Royal Family in kilts, will now organize the King’s private affairs.

A source told the outlet that Thompson, of the 5th Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland, will leave the army “within [the next] 18 months.”
The Post has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.
An equerry is an official of the British royal household who assists family members, and Thompson has attended to Charles since the death of Queen Elizabeth last year.

The handsome assistant was again at the sovereign’s side on May 6, and social media users were quick to drool over his presence.
Shortly after, it ranked third in Tatler’s Social Power Index, which details where “the real power lies in Britain”.

Squires are chosen from among the senior officers of the British Army.
The 40-year-old had onlookers swooning during the coronation service inside Westminster Abbey, and was quickly dubbed ‘Major Eye Candy’.

Thompson first went viral during the Queen’s funeral last year. She previously served as her squire and was her highest ranking bodyguard for a period of time.
Unfortunately for his fans, Thompson is off the market and has been married to his wife Caroline since 2010.
