The contest began in 2001 in Brezna as a playful way to mock the stereotype that Montenegrins are lazy. If that’s not absolutely brilliant, we don’t know what is!

While the majority of the contestants have been from Montenegro, there have also been participants from nearby countries such as Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, as well as Russia and Ukraine.

What are the rules of the contest?

According to the rules, participants stay at a resort where they receive three meals a day and are allowed to go to the bathroom every eight hours. Their well-being is closely monitored and their only task is to remain horizontal. Any attempt to stand or sit leads to instant disqualification.
