Lewiston native Patrick Dempsey ‘heartbroken’ over Maine mass shooting

“Grey’s Anatomy” alum Patrick Dempsey, a native of Lewiston, Maine, said he is “shocked” by Wednesday’s mass shooting in his hometown that killed at least 18 people and injured 13 more.

“I am shocked and deeply saddened by last night’s tragedy in my hometown of Lewiston, Maine,” Dempsey, 57, wrote on Instagram Thursday.

“Maine’s great strength is its sense of community, and now we are asked to come together to support all those who have been devastated by this senseless act.”

“My family and I are heartbroken for the victims, their families and the community,” Dempsey concluded in the post, in which he disabled comments.

Dempsey has deep ties to Lewiston.

Following her mother’s fight with cancer, the “Disenchanted” star opened the Dempsey Center, which helps cancer patients and their families with counseling, support groups and integrative therapies.

The nonprofit organization has locations in Lewiston and South Portland, Maine.

Dempsey returns to his hometown annually for the Dempsey Challenge, which raises money for cancer centers through running, walking and cycling events.

He also received an honorary degree from Bates College in Lewiston in 2017.

The Post has contacted Dempsey’s representatives for comment.

Dempsey’s statement about Wednesday’s tragedy comes as police continue their search for shooting suspect Robert Card, 40.

Card is accused of opening fire at a bar and a bowling alley where a little league was being held, police said.

He is a US Army Reserve petroleum specialist who recently reported on mental health issues, including hearing voices.

Card was reportedly committed to a mental health facility in Maine for two weeks over the summer.
