However, the situation can often spiral out of control, causing addicts to take drastic measures to escape their predicament. Here’s what happened:

In one such case, a man ended up swallowing a nail cutter while in a deaddiction programme. And, as if that wasn’t strange enough, he carried it in his stomach for up to eight years without ever realising it.
After over 3,000 days, a team of specialists from Bengaluru’s Manipal Hospital finally extracted the nail cutter from his stomach on August 18, according to The Indian Express.
The man, who lives in Sarjapur, went to see a doctor after experiencing significant discomfort in his abdomen. To determine the cause of his stomachache, the doctors performed an X-ray, and the results revealed the existence of a nail cutter inside his stomach.

The medical staff quickly performed laparoscopic surgery to remove the foreign object. That’s when the person remembered consuming the thing while under the influence of alcohol three years ago while living at a drug rehabilitation facility.

The 38-year-old stated to the portal that he was admitted to the rehabilitation centre for drinking at the age of 30. He couldn’t take the torture from the physicians there any longer and swallowed the nail cutter in rage.
He did alert the centre staff, who suggested eating a couple of bananas. “I figured it had burned out. “I recall only doctors questioning me about swallowing any object,” the guy stated, according to the Indian Express.
The individual went on to say that he was terrified of telling his parents or sister because he was afraid they would chastise him. “Even after my marriage, I did not inform my wife because there was no pain, and I totally forgot about it,” he stated.
According to Dr. Lohith U, Consultant for Surgical Gastroenterology, Bariatrics, and GI Oncology at Manipal Hospital, it was one of the most unusual instances he has seen in his career.
According to Lohith, the instrument found in the man’s stomach was a “regular-size nail cutter that adults use.” He feels the patient would remember the thing if he visited an airport or underwent an MRI scan.
