As the jury rendered guilty convictions in the nine-month hospital baby poisoning trial, murder nurse Lucy Letby remained completely impassive. Letby remained unmoved while the nurse’s mother cried and sobbed violently in front of the jurors. The 33-year-old serial killer, who worked at the Countess of Chester Hospital, was exposed as one of Britain’s deadliest child killers after injecting infants with air and poisoning them with insulin. After 86 hours of deliberation and a majority directive from the judge, the jury returned eight guilty verdicts on Friday. Before being led out of the courthouse by her husband John, her mother, Susan Letby, was overheard screaming, “This can’t be right, this can’t be right,” and sobbing excessively. When she returned to living with her parents in Hereford, England, in June 2019 and November 2020, there were other arrests that followed. Her parents were understandably pleased when their daughter became the first person in their extended family to enroll in college and leave the house because the Letbys were a close-knit family.
