Los Angeles homeowner shoots and kills suspect during attempted robbery as horrified child and grandmother watch

A Los Angeles homeowner shot and killed a suspected burglar over the weekend after a group of men in hoodies and dark masks broke into his home, where a boy and his grandmother were left baffled by the brazen itent of asault.

Police responded to the Granada Hills home around 5 a.m. Saturday after receiving radio calls of shots fired inside the residence.

The homeowner told police he was inside his home when three or four unknown men wearing “dark clothing, hoodies and masks” broke in. wrote the Los Angeles Police Department in X.

“A suspect pointed a gun at the victim and while the suspects were inside the residence, the victim produced a firearm and a shooting occurred,” the department wrote.

The homeowner chased the suspects, believed to be in their 20s, out of the home, the department wrote in a separate statement.

The suspects fled on foot, leaving behind the black BMW sedan in which they arrived, police said.

Paramedics pronounced the suspect who was shot dead at the scene.

Authorities believe one of the suspects who fled was also injured after seeing a trail of blood at the residence.

A grandmother and a young child were inside the home, along with the homeowner, at the time of the invasion.

The homeowner, who was photographed outside the residence apparently handcuffed, was taken to Devonshire Community Police Station to be interviewed, although he was later released.

Neighbors told KTLA they were not surprised by the audacious robbery attempt.

“We’ve had burglaries every day in this neighborhood,” resident Pat Walsh told the outlet. “So it doesn’t surprise me at all. It’s been a real problem. “The residents here are fed up.”

Another neighbor who did not want to be identified told the outlet that the thieves “messed with the wrong owner.”

“I hope this stops them,” they said. “It makes me feel good that people can protect their homes and stop these guys.”

Los Angeles County forensic investigators examined the decedent and determined that he suffered two gunshot wounds and was found in possession of the homeowner’s property.

The identity of the slain suspect has not been released.
