Maharana Pratap Singh was known as one of the bravest kings of Mewar who was born on May 9, 1950 in the state of Rajasthan. He was the son of Maharana Udai Singh of the Sisodiya clan of Rajputs, the rulers of Mewar. He became the first ruler of Mewar against his father’s wish, as it was decided that his first son would be the successor to the rule.
Mahrana Pratap Jayanti is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the King of Mewar and is observed on different dates in various states of India. According to the Julian calendar, the Rajput king was born on 9 May 1540. However, his birth anniversary is also celebrated according to the Hindu calendar on the Tritiya tithi of the Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha.

Pratap was the legendary king who started one of the first wars of independence against the Mughals. After his death in 1597, Pratap was succeeded by his eldest son Amar Singh I. Since then, Maharana Pratap’s birthday is celebrated every year with Havans and Pooja at the Maharana Pratap Memorial located on Pearl Hill in Udaipur. .
