Man who paid Rs 90 lakhs for a camera lens on Amazon claims he received quinoa seeds instead

In an unusual event, a man expecting a high-end camera lens worth Rs 90,000 from Amazon was shocked when he reportedly received a shipment containing quinoa seeds instead. The unforeseen confusion has raised concerns about the accuracy and reliability of the e-commerce giant’s fulfillment process.

The man, a photography enthusiast from India, had carefully chosen and ordered the camera lens through Amazon’s online site. He awaited the arrival of the coveted photographic equipment with bated breath, only to be met with disappointment and uncertainty upon opening the package.

On July 5, Arun Kumar Meher ordered a Sigma 24-70 f 2.8 lens from Amazon. He turned himself in the next day, but when he opened it, he was taken aback. He claimed that the box had already been opened and that it contained quinoa seeds instead of the camera lens. He also included a couple of images of the quinoa seeds that came with the lens box.

Meher posted a photo of the received item in his initial tweet. According to the brand name embossed on the box that contained the quinoa seeds, it was a package of Sigma lenses. When the package arrived at its destination, it was already open. “I ordered a 90K INR camera lens from Amazon, but they sent a box of lenses with a packet of quinoa seeds inside instead of the lens,” Meher explained. Amazon and Appario Retail have committed significant fraud. “I also opened the box of glasses.”

This incident casts doubt on Amazon’s quality control standards and the accuracy of its order fulfillment process. While it is unknown how such a discrepancy arose, it highlights the importance of increased awareness and attention to detail, especially when it comes to high-value items.

Incidents like this can also damage Amazon’s brand and undermine customer trust. As e-commerce grows and customer expectations rise, Amazon and other online retailers must prioritize correct order fulfillment and prompt customer support.
