Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene told Alejandro Mayorkas to resign as secretary of homeland security and sharply criticized FBI Director Christopher Wray for failing to combat pro-Palestinian activists during a hearing on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
Greene (R-Ga.) criticized Republicans for teaming up with Democrats to block her impeachment resolution against Mayorkas earlier this week, while warning the security chief that his days are numbered.
“Eight Republicans joined the Democrats and protected their position,” he told Mayorkas. “But I want you to know that it won’t take long to arrive. You can resign honorably or we will impeach you.”
“Secretary Mayorkas remains focused on the security of our nation,” a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said in a statement. “This baseless attack is completely baseless and a harmful distraction from our critical national security priorities.”
Greene then attacked Wray, who joined Mayorkas for a House Homeland Security Committee hearing on global threats.
She rebuked him for what she described as the FBI’s lack of action against the Oct. 18 pro-Palestinian protest at the Capitol.
“I haven’t seen on the news that the FBI is chasing them with helicopters, tanks in the streets, raiding their houses with stun grenades, attacking these people,” he complained while noticing a text message supposedly on the phone of one of the protesters. . discussing the global intifada.

“Absolutely,” Wray responded.
Greene showed an image related to the ordeal and noted that she had posted the photo on her X account. Wray responded that she didn’t “spend much time on Twitter.”
“I’m sure it is because the Department of Homeland Security organized with other offices [and] “He has censored many Americans, including me,” he responded.
“I am not part of the Department of Homeland Security,” he responded.
Greene implored Wray to prioritize investigations into jihad and terrorism in the United States. He then gave up his time.

Early in the hearing, Wray clashed with Rep. Clay Higgins (R-La.), who questioned him about whether the office had officers involved in the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.
Wray strongly denied any idea that the looting of the Capitol was orchestrated by “FBI sources or FBI agents,” but declined to go into detail about where the bureau has confidential sources.
“We can’t get a straight answer, although we have an enormous amount of evidence collected and reviewed over the last year, which you will see in September,” Higgins began his question.

“Did you confirm that the FBI had confidential human sources at the Stop the Steal rally on January 6 here in DC, sir?”
“I’m not going to go into detail about whether or not we used confidential human sources,” Wray responded.
Higgins later changed the subject to the “ghost bus” allegations.

Higgins used his remaining time to make a dubious accusation that the FBI had buses with people dressed as supporters of former President Donald Trump on the day of the riot.
