How ironic.
Far-right Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) was called out Tuesday night after his campaign sent out a fundraising email criticizing Republicans who were trying to prevent Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) from being elected president of the House, two weeks. after Gaetz engineered the overthrow of Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) with the help of a unified Democratic conference.
Gaetz’s email to Congress said, in part: “We are inches away from electing President Jim Jordan. But RINO [sic] We are working with RADICAL DEMOCRATS like AOC, ILHAN OMAR and RASHIDA TLAIB to BLOCK JIM JORDAN from becoming PRESIDENT!!
“Does anyone want to tell Matt Gaetz that he worked with RADICAL DEMOCRATS like @AOC @IlhanMN and @RashidaTlaib to remove @SpeakerMcCarthy, a REPUBLICAN SPEAKER,” a frustrated Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) posted on X, including a screenshot of speech screen to raise money.

“This email was sent by a vendor without my team’s approval. It shouldn’t have been sent,” Gaetz responded on X. “I sincerely apologize to Mike Lawler and anyone who felt attacked by this thing I conceived. [sic] Email. “I will make changes to ensure this does not happen again.”
“I intend to heed President-designate Jordan’s call not to attack my fellow Republicans as we work on this.”
Some of Jordan’s allies have been mounting a brutal pressure campaign against moderate Republicans who resist endorsing the Ohio lawmaker.

I sincerely apologize to Mike Lawler and anyone else who felt attacked by this email I conceived.
I will make changes to make sure this doesn’t happen again.
I intend to pay attention… https://t.co/rYxOypBEFo

Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.) highlighted scathing anonymous text messages his wife received suggesting her husband would be expelled from Congress if he did not support Jordan.
So far, Jordan has failed to receive the 217 votes needed to pick up the gavel in two separate votes. Lawler has voted in favor of McCarthy’s reinstatement on each occasion.
Gaetz joined seven Republicans and 208 Democrats in unseating McCarthy on Oct. 3 by approving a motion to vacate the president’s office, 216-210.

Gaetz had long held the motion to vacate the seat over McCarthy’s head and finally raised it after the former president presented a provisional continuity resolution to the floor late last month to avoid a partial government shutdown.
The 41-year-old Republican has since publicly endorsed House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) for speaker, despite his vote for CR. Scalise was dropped from consideration last week.
McCarthy has openly speculated that Gaetz pursued a personal vendetta against him for refusing to quash an ongoing investigation by the House Ethics Committee, something Gaetz has strenuously denied.

Without a Speaker, the House cannot carry out regular business.
Some Republicans have proposed expanding President Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry’s (R-NC) power to request legislation until a compromise candidate can be found.
